I'm going back to school for graphic design. Please keep this in mind.

Also, if you're going to leave a comment, please make it intelligent and back up your choice with logic. I really don't feel like reading comment after comment of "[OS] is retarded! Go with [other OS] or you're retarded, too!"

Seriously, I can read comments like that anywhere.

Well, I'm particularly attached to my PC... But if you're going into graphic design.... I'd have to recommend the Mac.
The PC, I feel, doesn't treat you like an idiot, like the Mac does... But sometimes that's a good thing when you can't figure something out...
Overall, the PC is more for gaming, and the Mac is more for 'Doing stuff' like graphic design and other productive things... Also it's prettier.

But both OS's can handle whatever you want to do with them, they're just spec'ed for different things. If you're going to be playing a lot of games, PC is best. If you're going to be using your laptop for purely school projects and the like, Mac.

You now have my opinion and some logic to back it up. :giggle:

Thanks. I only really use a handful of programs:

Firefox
AIM
Photoshop
Garage Band (Mac only, but it's just for fun)

The only two games I really play are Portal and WoW. Portal I can live without, as I can just get it for 360. And WoW can go on either OS, so that's not a really big concern.

Well, when you're in your graphic design school, I expect they'll have you get some more programs that'd probably run better in a Mac... But if that list is all you're going to use it for...
I change my vote to PC, because I love PC and it's got everything you need.

Don't you have a preference? One OS that's just easier to use than the other?

Aside from Garage Band, I can get on a PC pretty much anything available on a Mac. However, I've never had any major problems with my old Mac laptop. The only reason I don't use it anymore is because, it's by today's standards, outdated. i.e. 40gig HD, 512MB RAM, no wireless connectivity, (circa early 2003).

I don't like my inability to tweak and/or manipulate a Mac the same way I can with a PC, though.

I have people on both sides that can give me any additional information I need on their respective OS choices, too.

Here's the deal:

Most graphic design firms/companies/software is designed/built/developed/better suited for the Mac environment, and most of the design world (elitist little shits) revolves around the Mac platform, which is why it is always suggested that designers have a Mac.

However! Having been in the program at UWM for four years now (where they actually have a laptop requirement and it is "required" that you own a Mac (load of BS!)), I can honestly say that working on a PC, while it may set you apart in your classes, is no different and possibly easier than working on a Mac.
Additionally, you will save yourself a LOAD of money purchasing a PC that runs off the same hardware (if not completely overpowered :3). (Along the same line, your girlfriend has all the software you could ever want that she could let you...*ahem*...borrow, but it's all for Windows.)

In short, if it's the shiny interface you're looking for, go ahead and spend double the money you'd spend on a PC by purchasing a Mac. :p

(P.S. Don't get me wrong, I love Macs. They're incredibly efficient, they handle their RAM better, and hot DAMN, they're pretty. But right now, until you/I have a fancy, high-paying job, PCs are just more feasible.)

It's up to you, hun, and I will support you either way. Just tossing in my two cents.
:iconquazo:
Thanks for the input, sweetie. I really appreciate it. And it would be greatly appreciated if I could..."borrow" some of your software. <3

You're the best. ;)

It won't work if you get a Mactop, but you're definitely more than welcome to borrow it for your desktop and/or if you get a PC.

And no, hun... -you- are the best.

Well, since you're going in for Graphic Design, I would say go with a Macbook Pro. More memory (I think; or at least, more memory laptop-wise), more RAM (which is mainly what makes a Mac more ideal for Graphic Design, I think), pretty light in weight, the battery last a good three/four hours, has a pretty sleak design, and the keyboard is awesome (8D and truly the only thing I love on the one I own).

I'm personally not a MAC fan myself (I actually go between feeling neutral feelings for it and wanting to chuck it against a brick wall and smashing it with a hammer, depending on the day...>_> Especially at the stupid charger which is so short and bulky...) and don't quite understand why people boast about how great it is when it's the same as having a PC, just a different operating system with possibly less flaws in the coding. O_o; And that Apple makes both the hardware and the software, not just the software.

But I do say get a MAC for graphic design. XP I'm pretty sure they'd make you use one anyway.
